Carbon Trade  eXchange (CTX), the world’s first online spot exchange for carbon credits, has completed its global re-launch, following the activation of its electronic banking interface with Westpac Bank and registry connections to enable trading of Gold Standard and Verified Carbon Standard units.

After recent offline upgrades by CTX parent company Global Environmental Markets (GEM), CTX has relaunched with an improved user interface and a simplified pricing model:

  • Free membership for buyers and sellers
  • ZERO fees for buyers with registry accounts
  • 2% transaction fee on completed sales only, deducted automatically from the proceeds of sale

“CTX was designed to increase investment in climate action by using technology to bring efficiency, liquidity and comprehensive access to the global voluntary carbon market,” explained Chairman and Founder Wayne Sharpe.

He continued: “Our new fee structure means corporates can join and procure exactly what they want with no additional costs so they maximise the climate impact of their offset programme. Sellers only pay on successful transactions. By removing unnecessary transaction costs and increasing price transparency CTX aims to positively disrupt this opaque market.”

CTX was launched in 2009 and has transacted tens of millions of carbon credits certified by the major international carbon standards, via direct Registry connections that enable online review of project documentation and immediate transfer of credits to a buyer upon purchase. In 2010 CTX linked electronically with Westpac to provide a secure, multi-currency offering and immediate electronic payment transfers.

Carbon Trade Exchange is Cloud-based using the latest Microsoft Azure technology and operates 24/7 via any internet connected computer or device worldwide. Its user-friendly interface makes it simple and straightforward for project developers to list credits in their preferred currency, receiving immediate payment on sale. Those procuring can identify projects that meet their requirements using simple filters, refer to relevant project documentation and purchase securely in their preferred currency, with immediate, risk-free delivery.
