Summer was the Season of Climate Change
It is no longer a ‘future’ problem – it is here!
Unless you were living under a rock the planet is rebelling against humanity. While much of the planet was burning, massive floods and others suffering droughts, multiple extreme weather events seemed to be happening daily.
These are the EXACT things that the IPCC 6th Report predicted in 2021, then the UNFCCC got hijacked by Fossil Fuels, Mining and Media and all of a sudden at COP28 in Dubai (what?) the Qatari GORD stand I spoke at was next to the OPEC stand- yep OPEC! 97,000 people flew across the world (sadly me included) to achieve little or nothing. They CLAIMED it was “The beginning of the end for Fossil Fuels “ – we think that’s not true. You decide.
So, the COP Negotiations are just a side event for politicians and a way to justify the fake NetZero narrative for developed nations. Once again, it’s up to businesses to lead the way towards a more sustainable world with the courage to act and the determination to make a difference.
Banks have waded in via the ICVCM and successfully stifled the Voluntary Carbon Market in an effort to control it for profit, but their carbon offspring are losing tens or hundreds of millions per year. Of bank money (we all know who the culprits are). Then big money seems to follow big money like lemmings. Don’t they SEE the financials?
The voluntary carbon market should channel money into climate action. When powerful financial interests help shape the rules, we should ask tough questions: who benefits, where is the money going, and what is it achieving?
Big money must face scrutiny, not inspire blind confidence. Businesses deserve transparency, credible choices and a market that puts real climate progress first. The planet cannot afford anything less.
The independent operators are mostly struggling and the entire VCM is at its rock bottom – so what does the UNFCCC do? Close the CDM Registry, let a new tech player (bank funded) contract to build a ‘new registry’ (still not built) and leave thousands of projects stranded globally, and hundreds of millions of Carbon Credits to be written off next year.
Well, its Global Environmental Market, with CTX and GCR to the rescue!
CTX’s momentum keeps growing: August 2026 delivered our strongest trading month of the year, building on July’s previous high and setting a new benchmark.
CTX is the only marketplace where you can buy CDM CER offsets—at highly competitive prices ahead of their scheduled phase-out in early 2027.
To build on this momentum, we’re waiving delisting fees for credits newly listed in September 2026, provided they remain listed until February 2027. With our new Credit Sales channel opening up more opportunities to reach buyers, we’re confident about the sales potential for these listings.

Beyond the CDM: How CTX and GCR are Supporting the Next Generation of Carbon Market Opportunities
The 30 June deadline for Certified Emission Reduction (CER) eligibility from Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects has now passed, marking an important milestone in the evolution of the carbon market.
As the market continues to mature, the focus is increasingly shifting towards maintaining the value of these projects through transparent, credible and accessible carbon market infrastructure. The Global Carbon Registry (GCR) provides a pathway for eligible projects to continue participating in the carbon market by supporting the transition and recognition of projects within a robust registry environment.
Operated by Global Carbon Registry (GCR), the GEM ITMO Registry offers an immediate home for projects, who for many reasons may face the risks in the chapter below, solved at the lowest cost possible and with rapid transition to the issuance of Voluntary Credits. Project owners /Developers can then progressively assess and convert to Article 6.2 ITMOs later (for only 10 cents per credit), following careful consideration of the time, cost and likelihood of getting an LoA from their Host Nation. They could even transition to the UNFCCC Article 6 Registry next year when it is live if they qualify, can afford it and believe there are genuine buyers.
This development highlights the importance of ensuring that high-quality climate projects are not lost as market frameworks evolve. By providing opportunities for established projects to continue generating value, registries such as GCR help maintain momentum in global climate finance and emissions reduction efforts.
Carbon Trade Exchange (CTX) supports this evolving landscape by providing a trusted marketplace where organisations can access and trade carbon credits efficiently. Through CTX, buyers and sellers can participate in a transparent carbon market while supporting projects that contribute to measurable emissions reductions.
The transition beyond the CDM deadline marks a new chapter for carbon markets. With continued innovation, stronger market infrastructure and increased focus on quality, platforms such as CTX and initiatives such as GCR are helping shape the next generation of global climate action.
Projects of The Month
Mramorak 1&2 Bundled Biogas Power Plants (3 SDG’s)
Serbia, BCR, US0$.90 – US$1.10/t
This project represents a new bundled Greenfield initiative designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions and supply renewable electricity to Serbia’s EPS grid. Through advanced anaerobic digestion technology, the project converts organic waste into biogas, reducing methane emissions and displacing carbon‑intensive grid power with clean energy. All carbon credits generated through this activity are issued to and owned by Zlatar Mramorak Doo.
The plants utilise a diverse mix of feedstock—including cattle manure, non‑hazardous food waste, starch by‑products, Corn Steep Liquor (CSL), and agricultural residues such as silage corn and barley—to produce renewable electricity. Notably, the use of CSL marks one of the emerging applications in anaerobic digestion systems globally. The resulting green power is supplied directly into the national EPS grid, supporting Serbia’s transition toward a more sustainable energy future.
Energy efficiency – Recovery and recycling of materials from solid wastes – (10 SDG’s)
Romania (Europe) – €21.95/t
The first project of its kind issued by Gold Standard, located in Buzau, Romania is a transformative effort in PET recycling to reduce environmental pollution and GHG emissions. The company collects and recycles PET waste to produce high-quality recycled plastic materials such as PET flakes, PET straps, and granules, which serve various industries. Recycling PET not only prevents plastic waste from polluting natural ecosystems but also significantly lowers CO2 emissions down to 48% compared to the use of virgin materials. Additionally, the energy consumption in recycled plastic production is reduced by 30%, and fossil fuel usage drops by 75%.
Beyond environmental impact, this project enhances community well-being and economic stability. Funds generated from carbon credit sales support investments in new recycling technologies, the expansion of PET recycling for the food industry, and the growth of recycling infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe. Social development is also prioritized by promoting gender equality by advancing women into leadership roles and contributing to local pension and healthcare funds. Additional activities include civic education, providing training programs on recycling and sustainability in local schools.
The project not only helps companies achieve their carbon neutrality goals but also strengthens regional economies by creating jobs and fostering technical development in the areas of Buzau, Iasi, Frasinu, and Urziceni, Romania. Businesses can invest in this initiative by supporting the reduction of CO2 emissions and promoting sustainable waste management.
WASTE GAS TO ENERGY
REDUCING POLLUTION AND CUTTING CARBON EMISSIONS (5 SDGs), v2017-22
North Asia – $0.43 – $2.00/t
Global Carbon Registry (GCR) is proud to introduce a major new project in North Asia -in simple terms, this project takes gas that would normally be burned off as waste and puts it to good use as a cleaner energy source. By doing this, it reduces the need for natural gas and cuts carbon emissions in a meaningful way, preventing over 3.1 million tonnes of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere. The project follows trusted international standards, ensuring the results are real and properly verified.
Located in North Asia (Southern Siberia) at the ZapSibNeftekhim complex in the historic city of Tobolsk. What makes this project stand out is its scale and practical impact. Instead of wasting excess gas, it turns it into energy, improving efficiency and reducing pollution at one of the region’s largest industrial sites. The system runs continuously and is carefully monitored, giving buyers confidence that the carbon credits represent genuine emissions reductions. his project offers businesses a reliable and high-quality way to support real climate action while meeting their carbon goals
Verra VCS
Exxel Plastic Recycling Project, WRC4797, v2022 (3 SDG’s)
Canada – USD$450/t
This project is recognized as the first generator of Verra plastic credits in Canada, setting a new benchmark for innovation and performance in the recycling sector. Its technical expertise and commitment to advancing circular solutions make it an ideal partner for transforming plastic waste management.
Leveraging cutting‑edge technologies, it converts post‑consumer and post‑industrial plastics into high‑quality raw materials, enabling a truly circular economy. Its advanced recycling process allows for the recovery and revalorization of plastics that were previously considered non‑recyclable.
Through the initial phase of this project, it has already diverted more than 30,000 tonnes of plastic waste from landfill. The process has undergone full verification and certification, the result of three years of rigorous work.
With over two decades of experience in formulating reliable, 100% recycled resins, the project developer continues to invest in its capabilities, allocating more than $14 million to facility upgrades over the past three years.
